Extended Assessment of Occupational Fall Hazards for Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWP) Research Organization: Center for Disease Control/National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH)

Dr. Chistopher Pan
cpan@cdc.gov
Research Safety Engineer, Division of Safety Research, NIOSH/CDC
304.285.5978

The objective of the project is to respond to professional concerns from knowledgeable industrial users and manufacturers of MCWP’s, and to employ the tools and methods of the professional safety engineer to questions about fall hazards to workers at height. Combined perspectives of practitioners and researchers about the potential hazards to workers during the construction, assembly and disassembly of MCWP equipment will be assessed using the existing technology of the previous and ongoing NIOSH MCWP research projects. The project will work to determine probability failure modes for MCWPs’ by subjecting them to advanced engineering analysis, incorporating various, generally computerized methods: for example: shear and tensile strength analysis.
