The construction industry has undergone significant changes in the last decade. From rising construction costs for materials, to labor challenges, including persistent skilled labor shortages, as well as rapid changes in efficiency-improving technology, such as modular and prefabricated construction, management software, augmented/virtual reality, and mobile phones and apps, these changes are influencing the construction industry and impacting job-site safety. This reality underscores the need to understand new trends in fatalities among construction workers.
This grant will be used to analyze the National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) dataset from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The analytical results will inform JSI and the construction industry about the critical factors that lead to fatalities and injuries so that appropriate preventions can be designed and implemented.
