Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI) Executive Director Earns Safety Award
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (Feb. 21, 2019) – The Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI), a nonprofit research and educational organization dedicated to improving safety and protecting lives, is pleased to announced that its executive director, Bill Schaffner, received a SAFE (Safety Award for Excellence) Award during the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders Show on February 19, 2019.
Schaffner was chosen to receive the Leadership in Construction Safety Award by past recipients of the award. The award recognizes Schaffner’s vision, leadership and commitment toward improving construction safety in the home building industry.
Since JSI was founded in 2015, Schaffner has led this nonprofit organization with passion, dedication and a commitment to the JSI mission of improving construction safety and saving lives. He has been instrumental in JSI establishing strong partnerships with numerous research organizations, educational institutions and trade associations. Schaffner played a significant part in JSI’s research and grants, including fall prevention training funded under the OSHA Susan Harwood Training Program Grant, a NIOSH study to reduce fall hazards on mast climbing work platforms, the development of a phone safety app for the residential construction industry, the development of video toolbox talks, and the effort to address the opioid crisis in construction.
“Bill’s leadership, optimism and proactiveness have been integral in the growth of JSI,” said Mike Gerber, president of JSI. “He has made a firsthand impact on advancing safety in the construction industry through significant safety research and training projects. We are so grateful for his leadership and dedication to JSI and the industry as a whole.”
The NAHB/Builders Mutual SAFE awards program is the home building industry’s only award recognizing professionals who have made successful efforts to advance safety in the industry. It recognizes achievements of builders and trade contractors who develop and implement outstanding worksite safety programs. It also honors government officials and NAHB-affiliated associations that have made unique and important contributions to advancing safety in the home building industry.
Founded by Builders Mutual, the Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. This research and educational organization is dedicated to eliminating all job-site related injuries and deaths in the construction industry.
