RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – (February 26, 2018) – The Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI), a nonprofit research and educational organization dedicated to improving safety and protecting lives, awarded a grant to the National Housing Endowment/National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) during 2017.  The grant provided funding to assist in the creation of 36 “Toolbox Talk” videos over a two-year period.

Eighteen videos (nine topics with individual videos created both in English and Spanish) are complete.  These videos have been published and promoted nationally within the residential construction industry through the NAHB website and JSI YouTube channel.

The most recent video focused on silica.  The timeliness of this video was intentional as contractors continue to understand and educate their employees about recent OSHA guidelines surrounding silica and silica dust.  Providing an easily accessible training resource in both English and Spanish was important to both JSI and the NAHB.

“Since the release of our first videos early in 2017, we’ve received great feedback from users around the country about the quality and relevancy of these safety videos,” stated Bill Schaffner, executive director of JSI.  “NAHB has supported JSI’s mission by addressing the most important and timely topics contractors need to know to provide a safe work environment for their employees. We look forward to continuing that direction in 2018.”

“Presenting relevant and timely safety information in a short video format will be effective in helping employers and employees recognize and avoid hazards in the construction industry,” said Rob Matuga, assistant vice president, labor, safety and health at NAHB.  “This series of videos—in both English and Spanish language—is readily available and accessible to at-risk construction workers and demonstrates simple, safe work practices that prevent accidents.”
