RALEIGH, NC (June 4, 2024) – The Job-Site Safety Institute (JSI), a nonprofit research and educational organization dedicated to improving safety and protecting lives, has announced it is seeking proposals for a new study.
The study will investigate and analyze the business and safety benefits for small construction firms to transition from traditional hard hats (Type I) to protective safety helmets (Type II) to reduce the risk of traumatic brain injuries from a fall or a blow to the head. Specific details related to project scope, proposal submission and eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and submission instructions are available in the Request For Proposal. Eligible organizations are encouraged to submit proposals and a JSI Grant Application Form by July 15, 2024, by 11:59 p.m. ET and must be emailed to rmatuga@jssafety.org.
The purpose of this small business case study is to conduct a thorough research-backed analysis of replacing traditional hard hats with new, modern safety helmets that provide better head protection for construction workers. Through this study, the organization hopes to understand the advantages of using new, more protective safety helmets, identify barriers that may prevent small firms from replacing hard hats, and develop strategies to promote and increase the use of safety helmets among small construction firms.
Research partners are expected to submit a detailed case study outline to JSI within 45 days of contract start acceptance and submit the final case study within 180 days of JSI acceptance. This will include a detailed analysis of the problem, recommended solutions, and development of a blueprint for an action plan. JSI anticipates grant funding for this project in the amount of $25,000.
